My Book

Self-Worth: Between Fear and Love

In January of 2011 I began a project I had been considering for years. I wrote a book. I had started writing off and on with the hopes of ending up with a book since I had begun my never-ending (read: way too long and expensive to pay off) collegiate career. But it wasn’t until I finally had to give up on the relationship I wanted the most that I finally started filling out the pages. The book is was designed as an easy read, and it’s a mixture of stories and information on self-worth. The purpose is to help identify how self-worth works in our lives and show how easy it is to use our self-worth to change our lives so that we can experience growth towards the person we want to become. Self-worth is a life-changer. And it’s essential to living a happy, fulfilled life. The stories are honest and raw. The information I share is what I learned both through my studies and my life experiences, and what led me to the path I am on today.

Increasing our self-worth is an essential step for each of us to take. Understanding our own worth and learning how to function better within our own lives because of it not only helps us to feel better about who we are, but helps us to come closer to who we want to be. It helps us to grow. It helps us to feel happier more often. It helps us take steps towards alleviating our fears and anxieties. A lack of self-worth is the most common root problem we have. This book is your guide to changing that. You are worthy, even if reading that statement and letting it sink in makes you uncomfortable. We all have the chance to feel good about our lives and the person we are becoming. This book can lead you on your way. Get yours today!

For Kindle: (you don’t need a kindle, just an amazon account – the computer isn’t my preferred form of reading but it’s hard to beat the prices!)

  3. what steps did you take to copyright your book and get it published on Amazon?

    Like

    • I created a publishing company, looked through the createspace and kindle direct publishing information and used all the information they provided to figure out how they wanted things, formatting, ISBN’s, copyrights, etc and I did what they said. There are a few ways to copyright your material, that are pretty well explained, whether going through the writer’s guild or directly through the copyright center or simply publishing the material which depending on circumstances can work just as easily.

I can’t wait to read your book, and noticed from one of your earlier replies, that you counselled others, did I read it right? I’m a counsellor or 6 years — and have recently embarked upon spiritual direction training, also.

Many blessings to you and your lovely boy, and much success with birthing your latest ‘child’ — I trust it touches many lives, in most meaningful ways! Pax Christi, Alan

  17. I finally got around to reading your book. I am not done yet, but it is every bit as inspiring as I knew it would be. In fact, I am planning on buying a few paperback copies to share with any students at my new school in need of a little inspiration and self-worth.

    Like

    • Oh wow, I’m glad you are enjoying it so far! The part you wrote about sharing it – that is by far one of the most awesome things anyone has ever said to me, and you’ve made my whole week look up, which I appreciate!

Also, just to share… I’ve always been interested in opening my own school as well. It’s so hard to truly have the student’s best interest in mind these days. And there is so much need and so many variables outside of school affecting the kids that it really has become a nearly impossible task for teachers to be effective. But my friend (who was a high school English teacher) and I used to talk about opening up our own school all the time.

  18. Purchased your book in paperback. Enjoyed it very much. I am wondering how many years it took to write the book. The book begins with a very mundane journey through a relationship with a boy, then the writing is completely different through the self-help part of the book, almost as if you became a new person in the process.

  22. Hi Lauren. Thank you for visiting my blogsite. I am new at this game and appreciate your recognition. I bought and have read your book which I found to be a brave, honest and thought provoking enterprise. I have been a student of Jungian psychology for many years and one of many points which you raised rang particularly true for me – the fact that we all are able to and are entitled to WANT things. Aside from the basic necessities of life, it is for me what we WANT that really matters. Unfortunately it seems that the questions ‘what do I want?’ or ‘is this what I want?’ are difficult ones for many people to ask of themselves. And even if we do ask them, they are even more difficult to answer. Yet these personal questions and answers are essential to us having any knowledge of ourselves. Whether it is lack of self worth or just the controlling influences of our society that prevent us from asking about our wants, I do not know. I suspect the latter, more than the former.

    Like

    • You’re right. The things we want are definitely important and valid. And naturally then, complex. Thank you for sharing, and also for reading the book! I really appreciate it! 🙂

  54. Thanks for talking the time to read my latest post,”The Most unlikely gift.” I appreciate it. Self-worth is a conversation I had with one of my friends yesterday. She explained that the reason certain things happened to me was because I didn’t know my own worth. Within that context, I truly believe what she said.

It is so important to learn your own self-worth. I say learn because it’s harder to realize such an important tenant of your being. How can you realize something that you don’t know? That’s why discovery is so important. I didn’t fathom the idea of discovering my own self-worth because the thought never crossed my mind (which goes hand and hand with low self esteem). Enough of that, because I can talk about that all day, lol. Just know that I am in a much better place now. I still have my bouts with maintaining my self-worth awareness, but things will only get better (and have been).

Take care and know that your words are providing healing for someone else (including me).

    Love & Peace,
    Herbie

It gave me an outlet to express thoughts that may have otherwise remained confined. I too, find that it is cathartic to write. Writing music also helps me because it keeps me honest. Through my life experiences, I have learned how to look or the positive in everything. I don’t always get it right, but I’m more conscious of the beauty in simple things everyday. Per your thoughts on self-worth: I could not possibly agree more. When asked, I trouble identifying what my novel is about; however, I do know that self-esteem is a main theme throughout. I think all YA books should involve some element of self-worth/self-esteem, as teenagers battle mightily with it.

You are insightful, honest and bring the reader in. You seem young but wise. I look forward to reading more in the future. PS – 3 yr olds are great! 4 yr olds are even better. Enjoy!

  96. Thanks for liking my post “An old sonnet of mine.” That’s awesome that you were able to finish your book. I’ve tried several time to start my novel, and I’m back to the brainstorming part again, but things are optimistic. I’m doing more research, and I’m planning on doing a detailed outline this time around so I don’t founder after the first ten thousand words. Thanks again.

    • That sounds like a good plan for starting your novel. I used to hate outlines, but I ended up doing one about half-way through writing this book. It was a rough outline, but it gave me great focus and direction to get it done. I highly recommend it! Good luck! 🙂

  99. There is so many books about how to feel…What to do to change your life…yet not so much about real people trying out the information….I am glad to see you along the path…..:)

    • As writers we get to choose what we write about, self improvement is a noble endeavour and even more so when trying to share our experience of it. If we can help just one other person with our story then we are adding to this world. Even now, the self help shelf in your average bookstore is woefully small. Let’s increase it with our contribution.

    • Thank you, I agree. That’s one of the reasons I wrote it! I find there to be a lot of distance sometimes when I’m trying to read books that are self-help because it’s not really written about the person’s experiences, and I think that makes it harder to relate sometimes. Not that there aren’t good books out there still. 🙂

  100. Thank you for reading my post on God’s Enduring Love at heulu.wordpress.com
Self worth is the most precious thing to preserve/ protect in a person’s life. I believe it goes back to knowing that you are a child of God and God loves you.

  101. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and liking my “a beautiful agony” post!

I’m very interested in this book you’ve written, and plan on checking it out. Self-worth is something I’ve struggled with for a long time. I think it comes with the territory of being an artist…add on top of that several experiences in life that tore down what little self-worth I had, and, well…yeah, it’s not easy!
But I’ve made some great strides, and I think I would really enjoy your book.

Congratulations on finishing your book, what a wonderful accomplishment! 🙂

    • Self-worth was my biggest struggle that I had over the course of my life. Finding self-worth and finding out why to believe in myself and my worth and coming to understand is the most beneficial thing that has ever happened to me. I think when you are in a field that is based solely on the subjective nature of others like the arts are it’s incredibly difficult to maintain self-worth and self-esteem. When you put in the work and the love that accompanies art it can be daunting day in and day out to figure out how to do what you want to do with it, because you are dependent upon other people as well. Thank you for your kind words and for dropping by. I really like your portraiture. You do good work! 🙂

Thanks for liking my two posts “What’s in a Name?” and “What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?”…Your book sounds wonderful…writing lays us bare and leaves us vulnerable, but is such a wonderful form of expression and for lack of a better word “therapy”.

    • Writing is my favorite form of catharsis. And I really do appreciate that the page is available for me to leave whatever it is that I want to write on it. It’s a blank canvas and there’s a lot of freedom in that I find. I actually talk about that in it, because it’s vital to who I am and who I have become. Thanks for visiting! 🙂
